Mémoire Erinnern

Mémoire – Reminiscence

Even as the cover of this book suggests that its contents are saturated with memories, it seems to take it back, not anticipating the density of what is to come .

The exhibition it accompanies, “Mémoire – Reminiscence”, curated in cooperation with the Musée d’Art Moderne de Saint-Étienne Métropole, featured the works of six contemporary artists from Saint-Étienne: Jean-Luc Brignola, Jean-Marc Cerino, Olivier Dutel, Thierry Gruas, Éric Manigaud and Gaëlle Vicherd. Their works use a variety of artistic means to raise questions about remembrance, both of the personal and collective sort.

Each chapter highlights one of the artists and their work. The focus is on the personal experience of the role remembrance has in private and cultural memory.
