Stefan Strumbel: The Cold Heart
In the catalog for the exhibition “Stefan Strumbel: Das kalte Herz / Stefan Strumbel: The Cold Heart “, the content of the show is creatively engaged with. The open thread-binding on the book’s spine visually references the public performance “Blood Donation “, which preceded the 2016 exhibition in the Kunsthalle Göppingen. Citizens who agreed to donate blood became a part of Strumbel’s artistic action.
The public and participatory performance took place on the street, in an urban space, which is made visual reference to with the cover paper’s (Curious Matter) extremely rough feel and concrete-like appearance.
At the closing of this art action, an oversized “cold” heart was presented in the context of the annual exhibition of the Kunstverein “Handle with Care” at the Kunsthalle Göppingen. The hot foil stamping in copper on the front and back sides of the book echoes this sculptures material, COR-TEN steel.
