Dieter Schumacher. Paintings 1989–2019
In 2019, Göppingen artist Dieter Schumacher celebrated his 80th birthday. On the occasion of this anniversary, four exhibition venues in and around Göppingen showed a selection of his works and image cycles. The Kunsthalle Göppingen published a catalog which I had the chance to design.
The works of the artist, who is active in Göppingen, can be divided thematically into groups. In each series of pictures, Schumacher engages with a topic that occupies and accompanies him over an extended period of time. One example is Dante’s Inferno, which the artist worked with in his “Totentanz” cycle. Accordingly, the book is structured with differently colored fore-edges for each chapter. The book’s brochure cover has a flap that can be used as a bookmark.
