Irmela Maier: Charade
Using chicken wire, steel wool, and other waste materials Irmela Maier depicts monkeys in the form of sculptures, pictures, and constructions made of ceramic body parts. Her representation of the animals goes beyond mere classification of species to a far more individualized kind of observation. Each animal’s unique physiognomy, body language and dignity are acknowledged, though the sensual, hands-on character of all primates comes clearly across.
Following in this tendency, we chose a special paper stock for the cover that begs to be “seen with the hands”. The paper structure has the look and feel of leather. Surbalin Vario can be wonderfully offset or screen printed and is available in 7 colors and 2 weights.
