Martina Geist – Naturnah

Martina Geist – Close to Nature

This catalog was created to accompany the exhibition “Close to Nature”, for which Martina Geist produced a flag installation in the workshop of the Erich Hauser Art Foundation in Rottweil using nature as a framework. Via the transparent texture of the flag material on which the artist painted and applied fruits, leaves, twigs and tendrils, the motifs are made visible from front and back. This double-sided quality has been carried over to the catalog cover. The outside of the cover shows a reproduced detail from the front of a flag, while the inside cover shows a corresponding detail of the flag’s back.

The format of the catalog corresponds to that of the flags: a narrow, vertical format. The typography is minimalized to give space to the power of these expressive depictions of nature.

Martina Geist (born 1961 in Stuttgart) studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts, Stuttgart, at the University of Stuttgart and at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna. She lives and works in Stuttgart. In addition to the flags, large-format wooden panels and woodcuts were also displayed in the exhibition “Close to Nature”, reproductions of which are also included in the catalog.
